The Declaration of Our Love

But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. – 1 John 2:5 (NLT) 

When we think about love, we often associate it with feelings and emotions. Here, John reminds us that true love for God is revealed through obedience. Our love for Him is not just expressed in what we say or feel, but also in how we live. 

Obedience sometimes sounds like a heavy word, yet it reflects a heart that is aligned with God’s desires. It involves trusting that His ways are higher and better than our own. By following God’s Word, we declare that we love Him, trust Him, and honor Him. In surrender, we acknowledge that God knows what’s best for us. And even in moments when obedience feels difficult, these choices demonstrate the depth of our love for Him. Declaring God’s love is more than just an acknowledgement; it’s also trusting Him as we live our lives each day with the purpose of reflecting His truth. 

As you reflect on these things today, consider the areas in your life where God is calling you to obedience. Maybe it involves forgiveness, or stepping out in faith, or releasing something that’s holding you back from fully trusting Him. 

Every step of obedience is a declaration of our love for God.
